Nashville Pet Project

Shelter pets deserve loving forever homes and access to high-quality veterinary care both before and after joining your family. That's why each year we partner with Friends of Metro Animal Care and Control to raise essential funds for both of our life-saving organizations.

Thank you to everyone who helped us to raise over $57,000 during Nashville Pet Project on June 22, 2022. We'll see you again next year!

Basil's Quest, A Tale of Dogged Determination

During the month of December, when you purchase Basil's Quest directly from the author's website, 25% of the proceeds will be donated to Pet Community Center.

Basil’s Quest, A Tale of Dogged Determination, is a story about resilience and the power of love.

Basil doesn’t want much: just a forever home where he can love and be loved in return. Told from a rescue dog’s perspective, this children’s chapter book by Gracie Vandiver, is packed with humor and adventure.

Recommended for ages 8-12, Basil’s Quest, A Tale of Dogged Determination, includes six black-and-white illustrations to help children visualize Basil in his adventures. Basil’s Quest is a charming dog story with a happy ending. It will resonate with young readers, enabling them, by example, to face their own obstacles and setbacks in life.

About the Author

Gracie Vandiver has rescued many animals, but one dog rescue in particular compelled her to write a children’s chapter book titled Basil’s Quest, A Tale of Dogged Determination, based on her experience. Gracie shares her love of books as the steward of her Little Free Library (charter #83579 located in East Nashville, Tennessee), providing free access to books through neighborhood bookcases maintained by volunteers. She and her husband, Jerry, are active in the rescue dog transporting community, helping homeless animals relocate to states where they have a better chance of being adopted. Gracie has welcomed many rescue dogs into her family over the years, including her two current pack members who fill her days with smiles and waggy tails.
